The HSE has launched the latest update to its Health App. New features have been added, including outpatient waiting lists, telephone and video appointments, and notifications from cancer screening services.

As part of HSE Health App 5.2 update, users can now view outpatient waiting lists, which will store information such as waiting list name, hospital, and date of entry onto the waiting list. Once appointments are created, users will be notified via the app. Waiting list data will also now include telephone and video appointments, along with information and guidance on how to access the remote appointment.

The app has also been expanded to include bowel and cervical screening. Users will now receive a message in the app when they become eligible for bowel screening and cervical screening. This feature also includes information about the screening process and appointment guidance.

1,000 a day

Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer (CTTO), said: “One of the aims of the HSE App is to transform the health service experience for patients and staff and ensure patients and their clinicians have access to the health information they need to achieve the best outcomes. Using the app will help patients access the right care, in the right place, at the right time. We are seeing nearly 1,000 downloads of the HSE App every day now, and I would encourage everyone over 16 to check it out and add it to their home screen.”

This latest app release expands access to personal health information and adds to the existing app features which include information on outpatient, inpatient and day case waiting lists, appointments and referrals. The app allows easy access to digital versions of the Drug Payment Scheme (DPS), Long-term Illness and Medical Cards, as well as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), are now available on the app, along with a list of self-declared and reimbursed medications, flu and COVID-19 vaccination records, and Chronic Disease Management Care Plans.

Additionally, the HSE QUIT smoking cessation, Get Active, and Healthy Eating Active Living programmes are all available on the app, along with the HSE Live Chat, urgent and emergency care signposting, service finder for clinic led self-care prostate cancer care support, and the ability to set notification preferences.
