In the latest episode of PULSE the Podcast, Hong Kong EMR pioneer Dr NT Cheung joins Dr Louise Schaper and Dr George Margelis to reflect on three decades spent helping build one of the world’s largest integrated electronic patient record systems.
Dr Cheung discusses why Hong Kong took an incremental, clinician-led approach to digitisation, the value of building its technology in-house and the opportunities now emerging from decades of consistently collected patient data.
The conversation also turns to AI, cross-border health record sharing and how technology could support Hong Kong’s ageing population.
Dr Cheung cautions against expecting the latest technology to transform healthcare on its own.
“Healthcare is a very human process,” he says. “We’re building systems to help people help people, not to get rid of people.”
