IHE Australia has released its draft Australian pathology messaging profile for public comment, with feedback due by 30 July 2026.
The LTWau profile consolidates National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council requirements for HL7 version 2 messaging, based on ADRM 2021.1, the Australian localisation of the international HL7 version 2.4 messaging standard, with the implementation of standard pathology terminology through RCPA SPIA.
It is intended to provide a clearer, coordinated approach to applying the existing requirements for electronic pathology orders and results, bringing the relevant messaging and terminology specifications together in a single implementation profile.
Feedback will be considered by the IHE Australia Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Technical Committee. Interested parties can download the draft profile and comment record sheet from the feedback form and submit comments to admin.australia@ihe.net.
Following consultation, the profile is expected to enter a trial implementation phase of at least a year, allowing laboratories and technology providers to implement it and provide practical feedback.
IHE Australia has also made a recent webinar presentation on the profile and pathology messaging requirements
