Victoria has seen the largest growth in electronic medical record adoption over the last two years, followed by South Australia and Queensland, with integrated EMRs now used in about 65 per cent of Australia's public hospitals.

And while there is more growth to come over the next few years, particularly as the ACT, the Northern Territory and Western Australia begin their EMR implementations, it is in the private sector where the sector may begin to see some momentum for change.

In one of his regular updates on the state of the EMR nation, Bruce Pedersen, managing director of specialist healthcare and digital health consultancy The Checkley Group, told the Australasian Institute of Digital Health's summit in Sydney today that there had been an increase from 56 per cent deployment of integrated EMRs in Australian public hospitals in 2018 to around 65 per cent now.
