Lanas has announced a strategic partnership with Clinisys to incorporate its laboratory test ordering and delivery system into the Socrates GP practice management system. The collaboration will allow GP practices to order laboratory tests electronically and send them directly to hospital labs using Clinisys integrated clinical environment (ICE).

The new electronic lab ordering integration provides GPs with the capability to electronically request blood tests and other laboratory investigations directly through the Socrates platform. Orders are securely transmitted to the hospital laboratory systems that use the Clinisys ICE solution, with results returned electronically through established Healthlink pathways. This creates a fully closed-loop process from order to result.

With Clinisys ICE being installed at a number of hospitals throughout Ireland, the Socrates integration is available now.

“This partnership with Clinisys embodies our vision of simplifying everyday tasks for GP practices,” said Eileen Byrne, Managing Director at Lanas. “Our collaboration aims to remove friction from the lab ordering process, ultimately allowing practices to dedicate more time to patient care and less to administrative tasks.”

From the perspective of hospital laboratories, the integration enhances the consistency and structure of lab requests, and helps to improve laboratory workflows and response times by removing data entry bottlenecks.

Simon Hurst, UK and Ireland Managing Director from Clinisys said: “The connectivity between hospital laboratory services and GP systems such as Socrates, enabled through Clinisys ICE, marks an important step forward for both our organisations and our customers. Already proven in the UK, where 91 per cent of GPs have access to ICE, this interoperability enhances safety and efficiency in lab test ordering through in-built demand management for GPs. It also strengthens the digital connection between primary and secondary care nationwide.”
