The promise and future of health services research

Overview

On behalf of the Health Services Research Association of Australia and New Zealand (HSRAANZ), we invite you to our 14th Health Services Research Conference where innovation and research converge to shape the future of healthcare delivery. The conference will be held at Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wellington, New Zealand, from 2 – 4 December 2026.

We welcome speakers and delegates to explore the current and future challenges and solutions that health services research can offer. With a diverse array of speakers, thought-provoking sessions, and networking opportunities, this conference will have something for all. We encourage you to actively participate, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and most importantly, forge local and international connections that will drive progress in health services research.

Theme: The Promise and Future of Health Services Research

Health services research holds the promise of transforming healthcare systems by improving access, quality, efficiency, and equity. The 21st century challenges of increasingly fiscally constrained health services, and the dynamic and rapid change in health systems, mean that we have to also adapt the ways we harness expertise across multiple disciplines, develop the evidence-base in ways of working, ways of valuing, ways of researching, and ways of translating evidence into practice for the benefit of all.

While our main theme is the promise and future of HSRAANZ, we warmly welcome and encourage presentations across all aspects of health services research. This might include research in the following sub-theme areas:

  • Delivering future healthcare: new models, settings, and pathways
  • Listening today for a better tomorrow: equity, voices, and lived realities
  • Intelligent health systems: digital innovation, AI, and data-driven care
  • The value of society: indigenous knowledge systems and methodologies
  • Methodological innovation to advance health services research
  • Doing more of things that work: implementation, disinvestment and knowledge translation
  • Next-generation prevention, diagnostics and care: evidence translation into policy and practice for real world impact
  • The future health workforce: development, support and well-being
  • Power, policy, and ethics: governing tomorrow’s health systems
  • Future proofing healthcare: value, sustainability, and system resilience
