Patient linked to product in EMRs under new interoperability agreement

The link between patients and the products they are administered in hospital will be better enabled through barcode scanning following an agreement between global standards organisation GS1 and the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO).

The organisations have signed a collaborative agreement to link GS1’s global trade item numbers (GTIN) with SNOMED CT to support interoperability in health information systems.
