Ireland’s national maternity EHR, MN-CMS, has now been adopted by The Coombe Hospital, the final standalone maternity hospital in Phase 2 – with antenatal clinics added from mid-October 2025.

The expansion brings MN-CMS coverage to about 62 per cent of births nationally, significantly expanding access to a shared electronic record for mothers and newborns across inpatient and community settings.

HSE Technology and Transformation says it follows the successful implementation in HSE Mid West which became the first region in Ireland to complete the implementation of the MN-CMS EHR with all specialties; maternity, neonatology as well as gynaecology in July 2025.

They join Cork University Maternity Hospital, University Hospital Kerry, the Rotunda Hospital , and the National Maternity Hospital Foundation in this national programme.

As part of the HSE Digital for Care 2030 strategy, the remaining 13 maternity units and their related clinics are expected to implement the system in the next five years as part of the transformative national programme.

Health services say the move will improve safety, documentation quality, and care continuity while strengthening the data backbone for perinatal audit, quality improvement and future research.
